The abbeys of St. Stephen and Holy Trinity were created in response to the papal recognition of
King William I of England and Matilda of Flanders' marriage in 1059.

The Abbey of St. Stephen was in Caen, Normandy.
The Abbey of Saint Etienne (Saint Stephen) was also known as
Abbaye aux Hommes (Men's Abbey).
The Abbey of the Holy Trinity was in Caen, Normandy.
