'I wish that thou offer up all thy petitions and prayers in the name of my most holy Son and my own; and be assured without doubt, that they will be heard, if they are joined with the upright intention of pleasing God.  Look upon me with loving affection as thy Mother, thy refuge and thy help; trust thyself to my devoted love, and remember, my dearest, that my desire for thy greater good urges me to teach thee the means of obtaining great blessings and favors of divine grace at the most liberal hands of God.  Do not make thyself unfit for them, not hinder them by thy timidity.  And if thou wishest to induce me to love thee as my much beloved daughter, rouse thyself to a fulfillment of what I tell thee and manifest to thee.  Toward this direct thy careful efforts, resting satisfied only when thou hast labored hard to put my teachings into practice.'

Dear Friends,

I will work harder at making my quotes free from typos, in order that I may do justice to Ven. Mary of Agreda and her great work.  I still can't make much sense out of the pronoun capitalization of this particular work.  God bless you all!

Yours in Mary Immaculate,
Therese

Thanks for all the quotes and corrections Therese.

I looked at the original language books and I couldn't see anything by way of capitalization in the brief look I gave them. I'd have to look further to than the brief look I gave it to be certain, or you might want to yourself, but it may be something that happened in the translation and editing.

Wow!  Where did you find the original language books, Shin?  I noticed that the pronoun for St. Elisabeth was capitalized too.  I wasn't sure if this happened in the translation and editing or in the original text.  God bless you!

Certainly, the title in Spanish would be 'Mystica Ciudad de Dios' and I will temporarily at least upload the first volume for you to refer to if you wish.

While I cannot read Spanish, it is not hard to pick out the words at times due to their roots, and compare sentences with the help of online translators and dictionaries. Here is the link.

As for how I found it I simply translated the title, thence did a search for it in the various online book archive depositories.

Please wait fifteen minutes after I post this for the book to fully upload and be available if you are reading this immediately.

'Thy habitations shall be the Divinity of the Most High, the humanity of my most holy Son, and thy own interior....In order that thou mayest be aided therein by retirement of the body, I desire that thou remain secluded in thy choir or in thy cell, leaving it only, when obedience or charity make it inevitable.'

'It is also certain that ordinarily the demons have no power over souls, unless they gain entrance by some mortal or venial fault.  Mortal sin gives them a sort of direct right over those who commit it; while venial sin weakens the strength of the soul and invites their attacks.'

Dear Shin,

I have looked into this matter a little so far and can not decipher from the Spanish text the apparent problem with pronoun capitalization found in the English text--at least I find no problem in the Spanish text with possessive pronoun capitalization within paragraphs.  Whenever I've looked for a possessive pronoun and its capitalization (of lack of capitalization) in the Spanish text I could not even find the possessive pronoun in a sentence -- I'm wondering if possessive pronouns in the Spanish language get incorporated into words as part of their endings or something.

I've been looking for paragraphs in the English text with inconsistently capitalized "he" and "she" pronouns, but cannot find them!  If you--or anyone--comes across a post with one, please inform me so I can check  the Spanish text.  Thanks!

I'm going to check Bk. I, 383 in the Spanish text for possible cap errors, Shin.  God bless you!

If you look up 'Spanish pronouns' you'll soon find a list Therese!

Dear Shin,

I checked the Spanish and English versions of  Bk I, 383 (English version) and found that the Spanish translation is nowhere near a word for word translation.  The English translation appears to be so different from the original Spanish; I truly believe that it is NOT Ven. Mary of Agreda or the Spanish text that is inconsistent with pronouns.  The problem with inconsistent capitalizations only shows up in the English version of the City of God, so I would have to say that either the translator or the publisher is responsible.  God bless you!

What happened to my post?!  I just posted my findings about Bk. I, 383 and it didn't post!!!  I'm not going to try to type up everything again; I'll just let you know that our problem with what appears to be capitalization inconsistencies derives from the English version of City God; either the English translator or publisher is responsible for the "inconsistencies" we see--not Ven. Mary of Agreda or the original Spanish version of City of God.

I say this based on what I could decipher in the Spanish text;  I do not speak or read Spanish, but it still appears to me that our problem does not lie in the Spanish text but in the English text.

Dear Shin,

This is not the first time I have lost a post after trying to send it.  Could there be a problem with my account, or do these sorts of glitches sometimes happen out of the blue?  I can set up a new account if you think that I need to.  God bless you!
