An Advent Wreath tradition

One tradition of the Advent wreath is to hang the wreath in the place that the Christmas tree will go.
That way the four lights of Advent blossom into the numerous lights of Christmas.

A traditional Advent wreath is suspended horizontally from the ceiling.
That way the wreath becomes like a hole to peak into heaven.

On the first Sunday of Advent, the first candle is the Prophecy Candle.
The prophets, including Isaiah, foretold the birth of Jesus.

On the second Sunday of Advent, the second purple candle is lit.
Some traditions call this the Bethlehem Candle, symbolizing Christ's manger.

On the third Sunday of Advent, the pink or rose colored candle is lit. It represents joy.

On the fourth Sunday of Advent, the last purple candle is lit.
It is called the Angels Candle and represents peace.

The original purpose of the Advent wreath was to bring focus on Christmas rather than on Advent as a distinct season.

Have you ever seen an Advent wreath with a Nativity scene in the center?
