St. Ansegisus was born about 770 in Lyonnais, France.
His feast day is July 20.
When he was eighteen he entered the Abbey of Fontanelle where one of his relatives, St. Gerwold, was Abbot.

The monastery of Fontenelle was also called St. Wandrille after the name of its founder.

Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne appointed Ansegisus to administer and reform the Abbeys of St. Sixtus at Rheims and St. Menge near Chalens.
