What was the reason for having the Feast of Saint Peter and the Feast of Saint Paul put together as one feast day?

Was there ever a separate feast day just for Saint Peter?

On the Floral Calendar the feast of St. Peter is the 29th and the feast of St. Paul is the 30th. Cheesy

The Roman Martyrology has the birthdays of Peter and Paul on the 29th, and the commemoration of Paul on the 30th.

For the 29th the Martyrology says, "At Rome, the birth-day of the holy Apostles S. Peter and Paul who in the same year, and same day, suffered Martyrdom under Nero the Emperor, of whom S. Peter being crucified, with his head downward, in the same city, was buried in the Vatican, near to the Triumphal way, where his body is honoured of the whole world: But S. Paul being beheaded, and buried in the highway of Ostian, where he receives like honors."

In the General Roman Calendar, the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul is a solemnity.
