St. Alexis was born in Rome in the fourth century.
He was the son of a rich Roman senator and his wife who were very charitable Christians.
They taught Alexis to take care of the poor.
From an early age, Alexis wished to renounce all his wealth. However, his parents had chosen a wife for him.

Alexis married the young lady. On his wedding day, he obtained her permission to leave her for the Lord God.

In disguise Alexis traveled to Syria in the East and lived in great poverty near a Church of Our Lady.

Alexis returned to Rome. Good Christians took him in and sheltered him for seventeen years.
