St. Bernard of Corleone was born on the island of Sicily in 1605.
His father was a shoemaker and taught his son the way of the trade.
Upon the demise of his father, Bernard left the shop and took up fencing.

Bernard frequently made devout visits to a crucifix that was highly honored by the people.
He provided a lamp to be kept burning before it.

On December 13, 1632 he entered the novitiate of the friars of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin at Caltanissetta.
He received the habit and the religious name Bernardo.

In Castronovo Bernard used to go through the streets with a large pot on his shoulders to give minestrone to the poor.
