Saint Fiacre was ordained a Catholic priest and elevated to the rank of abbot. In time he had his own hermitage.

With the aid of a grant of land from St. Faro, Fiacre chopped down trees to build a hospice to shelter people.
He cleared the soil in order to grow corn and vegetables to feed them.

Visitors to St. Fiacre's shrine included Anne of Austria, King Louis XIII of France, and Saint Vincent de Paul.

St. Fiacre sailed to France in search of greater solitude. He arrived in Meaux, France in AD 628.
