I ordered a pack of S.B. medals online and they appear to be correct in every way, accept that there are no letters on the back cross.
Does this invalidate the medal, or does it not matter?
I bought them to give away to anyone I feel needs them.

I don't know the answer to your question, I wonder if the St. Benedict book we have on Saints' Books might have some info on it though.

I recall it took me some time to find some St. Benedict medals that were already blessed in the past, if I recall it was an around 90 year old priest.   crucifix

Thank you for responding. I've seen a few medal images where there is no
writing on the cross, so I guess they're valid medals. No news is good news, right?
