Covering statues with unadorned violet opaque cloths begins on the Saturday before
the 5th Sunday of Lent. It is an older custom of the Church.

Is it correct if statues are veiled as soon as Lent begins?

Statues covered during Lent symbolically hides the heavenly glory realized by the saints.

During the Middle Ages, statues of saints and other images were covered at the start of Lent.
Beginning in the 17th century, veiling was limited to Passiontide instead of throughout Lent.

In Germany there was a tradition to veil the altar from view throughout all of Lent.
