Why does John get called John the Baptizer when he is referred to as John the Baptist?

John the Baptist is a more commoner phrase for John the Baptizer, the Forerunner of Christ and the Last and Greatest Prophet.

John the Baptist preached a message of repentance expressed in water baptism and
bearing active fruit in one's life in preparation for the appearing of the Messiah.

John the Baptist's entrance into the world was marked by angelic proclamation and divine intervention. (Luke 1: 57-80)
John's birth parallels that of his cousin Jesus.

While John was known as "the Baptist", he was the first prophet called by God since Malachi some 400 years earlier.

John was of priestly descent. His mother Elizabeth was a descendant of Israel's first high priest named Aaron.

As recorded in Luke's Gospel, John the Baptist's message of preparation sounded like this:
He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.

Followers of John existed well into the 2nd century AD. Some followers proclaimed him to be the Messiah awaited by Jews.
