Blessed Henry Suso

Heinrich Seuse von Berg was born around the year 1295 in the town of Uberlingen, on the shores of Lake Constance.   
His father was a draper. His mother came from a noble family from Swabia.   
His mother died on a Good Friday at the hour of Jesus' death.

Henry entered the Dominican convent of Constance at the age of thirteen around 1310.     
He took the name Seuse, Latinized as Suso, out of veneration for his mother.

From the writings of Saint John Cassian Henry learned:   
"It is Christ dying on the cross Who must be our model."

After 1320, once Henry had completed the standard course of study, he was sent to the Order's   
general stadium in Cologne for further study of the Bible and scholastic theology.
