Hello, Smiley

For a while now, I've been really feeling drawn to certain things... I feel this very strongly and can't ignore it any more. I don't know if this is God trying to speak to me... how do you think God speaks to us?

For most of my life as a Christian, I've prayed daily but I also spent much time socializing with friends, leisure activities, etc. But currently, I feel like God wants me to really focus on Him and on growing in charity, humility, and spending more time in prayer.. I feel drawn to offering reparation, visiting the Blessed Sacrament, doing spiritual reading, etc. Also, I feel like I should live more simply, and not focus so much on looks or possessions. What is strange is that there seems to be such a sense of urgency about all this.. like God really wants it for some reason. This has been going on for months... and I haven't done much to respond. I'm afraid of my weakness...I also don't want to do this in a public way, but for all this to be hidden from others. I want to speak about all this with my SD.. but I'm wondering - has anyone here ever gone through something similar? Is this normal in spiritual growth?

My concern is time. I'm not a religious... I live in the world and I'm a student. I live amidst so many distractions.. but I really want to live for God more.

Thank you Smiley

I think all these things you are drawn to are things you should do, and do as quickly as you can without backsliding.. Listen to God! The more things I throw away, especially secular entertainment, and useless possessions.. the better my spiritual life gets.. The more I pray.. the same.. The more time in Adoration.. the same.. the more reading.. yes, all of it.. and yes it is urgent.. the faster we fly to God the better..

Believe me the urge to do these things can disappear and then you have to fight for them.. take advantage of it.. if you hesitate too long to heed the call of God you can lose.. more than I can say.

Dress modestly! Don't follow the fashions of the world! This is very very important.. the fewer people who do certain things.. if you do it.. it is greatly pleasing to God..  Smiley There are some good modesty links in the announcements.  Cheesy Let your modesty be known to all men.. this is what scripture says..

yes Smiley a while ago I gave up TV and I don't miss it at all. But I feel that God wants me to go further because I still have many attachments. It's interesting seeing the importance of spiritual growth, all of a sudden...

modesty is also something I feel drawn to Smiley

I think I finally got a way to define it...... I feel drawn to imitating our Blessed Mother in all ways. To live a simple, hidden holy life like her. To be humble, loving, and modest. I'm very far from all that. I also live in an environment that's full of distractions. But I feel this is very important.....and what He wants.

My instinct would tell you to follow your heart; but it also says prudence is a good thing too and so I think you should be completely honest with your spiritual director.  If you have had good experience and growth from his/her guidance in the past, you can only grow in the future by following his/her advice now.  This sounds like you are deeply being moved and that's why I say this.
Blessings.

I'm in the world too.. I would like to live a religious life, and God willing perhaps I will someday.. in the meantime I try more and more to live as religious a life in the world as can be lived..

The Blessed Mother is the perfect soul for imitation for you!  Cheesy

'In between these resplendent lilies her Son placed seven precious gems. The first gem is her outstanding virtuousness, for there exists no virtue in any other spirit or in any other body, which she does not possess more excellently. The second gem is her perfect purity, for the Queen of Heaven was so pure that not a single stain of sin was ever to be found in her from the beginning when she first entered the world up to the final day of her death. Not all the devils together could find enough impurity in her to fit on the head of a pin. She was truly pure, for it was not fitting for the King of glory to lie in any but the purest, cleanest, and most select vessel among angels and men. The third gem was her beauty, for God is praised constantly by his saints for the beauty of his Mother. Her beauty completes the joy of the holy angels and of all holy souls. The fourth precious gem in the crown is the Virgin Mothers' wisdom, for she was filled with all divine wisdom in God and through her all wisdom is completed and perfected. The fifth gem is power, for she is so powerful before God that she can crush anything that has been created or made. The sixth gem is her shining clarity, for she shines so clear that she even sheds light on the angels, whose eyes shine more clearly than light, and the demons do not dare to look upon her shining clarity. The seventh gem is the fullness of every delight and spiritual sweetness, since her fullness is such that there is no joy that she does not add to, no delight that is not made fuller and more perfect through her and through the blessed vision of her, for she is filled and replete with grace beyond all the saints. She is the pure vessel in which lay the bread of angels and in which all sweetness and beauty is found. Her Son placed these seven gems in between the seven lilies in her crown. Wherefore, bride of her Son, honor and praise her with all your heart, for she is truly worthy of all praise and honor!'

St. John the Baptist to St. Bridget of Sweden in a vision, describing the Blessed Virgin Mary

I have come to teach you the prayer which I made as a young girl when I was still living in the Temple. I resolutely decided in my heart that I wished to have God as father and I made up my mind to do whatever would please him, so that I might find favour in his sight. I made myself learn his law and all the commandments contained in it. In particular I committed to memory three commandments, being eager to keep them with the greatest care and with all my might. These are: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Love your neighbour as yourself. (Dt 6:5) Love your friend and hate your enemy." (Lv 19:18 and Mt 5:3) For I understood that man and angel were good, and my enemy was the devil and, insofar as he is evil, the evil man. From that love of God and neighbour, and from the fear and hatred of the enemy (that is, of the devil and sin), every fulness of grace and virtue has descended to me. That love cannot take root in the human heart unless there is there hatred of the enemy, that is, of the devil and sin.'

The Blessed Virgin to St. Elizabeth, from 'The Revelations of St. Elizabeth of Toss'

'"If therefore you wish to obtain that love, do as I did in the Temple in my earliest youth. For I would rise in the middle of the night and, standing before the altar with complete concentration of mind, I would ask the Lord for his grace by which I might be able to keep these commandments I have mentioned, and I would make seven petitions, one after the other, in prayer before the altar."

"The first was, that he would give me his grace by means of which I should be able to fulfill the first commandment, that is, on loving God above all things, with all my heart, all my mind and all my strength."

"The second was, that I should be able to fulfill the second commandment, on loving my neighbour as myself, and that he should make me love what he himself loved."

"The third was, that I should be able to fulfill the third commandment and that he should make me hate the enemy of the human race because from him derive vice, sin, and whatever he himself hates."

"The fourth was, that he should give me humility, patience, kindliness, gentleness and other virtues, by which I might be made lovely in his eyes."

"The fifth was, that he should allow me to see the time when that blessed virgin should be born who, according to the sayings of the prophets, was to bear his son; and that he would keep safe my eyes with which I might see her, my ears with which I might hear her speak, my tongue with which I might praise her, my hands with which I might touch her, my feet with which I might run to her, my knees on which I might do her homage, and see and do homage to her son lying on her lap."

"The sixth was, that he would give me grace by which I might be able to keep all the commandments of the priests and the rules of the Temple."

"The seventh and last was that he would deign to keep safe his holy Temple and all his own People, to serve him forever."'

The Blessed Virgin to St. Elizabeth, from 'The Revelations of St. Elizabeth of Toss'
