Tomorrow  my  mom will be in surgery for two knee replacements.
She will be in the hospital for 4-5 days and then  Rehab for a week or Two.
She doesn't do well with surgeries and she is 75.

We also found out yesterday that my husband's father has prostate cancer.  He is 80.

I think the hardest thing about this is that we cannot visit or help since we live on the other side of the county.

Bailey, they will be in my prayers. I understand how you feel about being far away from them.  Sad I hope they have someone around to help.

Well, I just got off the phone with my mother; a lengthy conversation.  She was happy and calm and explained the following:

She had asked the parish priest if he would be willing to administer the sacrament of the sick.  Of course he said yes.  She met him at the church (my dad drove her) and he had her sit right next to the tabernacle located at the side of the church (my dad left of course).  There she went to Confession, had the sacrament of the sick, and received communion.  She said this was a young man, she thinks in his late 20's who is only a priest one year May 23rd.  He is from Columbia and his English is not very good yet (which is fine since my 75 yr old mother has recently learned some Spanish!).  Anyway, she said he administered these sacraments so devoutly that she was incredibly moved by the experience.  She also said that at mass, he is also likewise very devout, bowing and kneeling with deep reverence during the creed and consecration, etc.  She said during confession after absolution he put his stole on her shoulder and his hand on her head and prayed silently "for a long time" and she felt this peace just flow through her.  After communion, he blessed her with the ciborium, making the sign of the cross over her.

Well, I would say my mother is ready for surgery!  Thought you guys would appreciate hearing about it.  Smiley

Bailey, your mother's experience with the priest was really touching. So rare to see such devout priests nowadays, especially young ones. And that he truly blessed her by his piety. She must have gone home a reassured and calm woman. God bless the young priest . Little Angel

How are your parents doing, Bailey? Do they have help around the house?

thank you for asking (and reminding me I haven't called her!   Shocked )

She is in rehab for two weeks.  They have a cleaning service.  My dad is also pretty amazing; visits daily, runs all the errands, etc.  Probably the most faithful man I have never known; quite the care-taker when needed.   thumbs up

They have both had numerous surgeries over the last 5 yrs........ they say they are used to the routine!   confused

Oh yes, I am not sure what is going on with my father-in-law; they don't share much. He is 80. I am pretty sure he will opt for surgery rather than radiation pellets like my dad did at 60 yrs ago.

Praying for your mother and your husband's father.  May they both be under God's constant paternal care and loving protection.  Amen.

Thanks Therese,

This is probably a good time to say, REJOICE!
My mother is WALKING; amazing so soon!  She said she'll be going up and down stairs very soon; she's quite feisty, you know.   Roll Eyes

My father-in-law is 80.  They said the prostate cancer is not worth treating since it is not life-threatening.  thumbs up
