Modernists
«

It is one of the cleverest devices of the Modernists (as they are commonly and rightly called) to present their doctrines without order and systematic arrangement, in a scattered and disjointed manner, so as to make it appear as if their minds were in doubt or hesitation, whereas in reality they are quite fixed and steadfast

Fr Ronald Knox was a convert from the Anglican church and became a great Catholic apologist in the 50's.
Here is one of his humorous quotes concerning Modernism.
I could not accept the disbeliefs that these theologians propounded for my acceptance
If I was to go to heaven with the Higher Critics,(Modernists) it must be on the plea that invincible ignorance blinded me to the light of doubt.

It took me a number of times of reading this but I finally understood what he was saying. I love it, I really love it.

Another of knox sayings when defining Modernists thinking.
He calls it. "Chronological snobbery whereby one states that newer is always better".

I don't think so (although sometimes you might pretend that you are for
). If you want to you can Google papal encyclicals then you can read or skim Pascendi Dominici Gregis - that's the encyclical totally about modernism. That way you'll feel like you do have a clue.

'Pascendi Dominici Gregis ' Do you really read that kind of stuff, Brigid? It would be too heavy reading for me

Yeah, but I need to read parts of it at a time though, since the encyclicals are long. I need breaks.
I also need to re-read them as I don't catch a lot the first time through. Some Pope's writings are easier to read than others, of course.
