A wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if the husband die, she is at liberty: let her marry to whom she will; only in the Lord. But more blessed shall she be, if she so remain, according to my counsel; and I think that I also have the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 7:39-40

Widows are very respectable offices in the Church! We must gather quotations on them!

He doth judgment to the fatherless and the widow, loveth the stranger, and giveth him food and raiment.

Deuteronomy 10:18

If thou have gathered the fruit of thy olive trees, thou shalt not return to gather whatsoever remaineth on the trees: but shalt leave it for the stranger, for the fatherless, and the widow.

Deuteronomy 24:20

When thou hast made an end of tithing all thy fruits, in the third year of tithes thou shalt give it to the Levite, and to the stranger, and to the fatherless, and to the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled: And thou shalt speak thus in the sight of the Lord thy God: I have taken that which was sanctified out of my house, and I have given it to the Levite, and to the stranger, and to the fatherless, and to the widow, as thou hast commanded me: I have not transgressed thy commandments nor forgotten thy precepts.

Deuteronomy 26:12-13

He waits for our tears, that He may pour forth His goodness. So in the Gospel, having pity on the tears of the widow, He raised her son. He waits for our conversion, that He may Himself restore us to grace, which would have continued with us had no fall overtaken us. But He is angry because we have by our sins incurred guilt, in order that we may be humbled; we are humbled, in order that we may be found worthy rather of pity than of punishment.'

St. Ambrose of Milan

You see how God has care for people without regular family support and makes it a law of His people to care for these!  Cheesy And how much more God must love a mother who has no husband to care for her children!  I can well imagine, like those children who having lost a mother take Mary for their mother, that God as Father is moved to step in all the more for such a family Himself and will be all the more responsive to prayers of this kind.

21 Depart not from a wise and good wife, whom thou hast gotten in the fear of the Lord: for the grace of her modesty is above gold.

Ecclesiasticus 7:21

If thou hast a wife according to thy soul, cast her not off: and to her that is hateful, trust not thyself. With thy whole heart,

Ecclesiasticus 7:28

Happy is the husband of a good wife: for the number of his years is double.

Oh, I hoped you wouldn't find those. Sad They may be true of a small portion of this gender, however as a whole we're a wonderful gender for a man to be married to.  Wink Grin
