I am reading a book that has greatly helped me to understand what the Apostle meant by "pray without ceasing". There are several ways to do this. The author records his spiritual journey from praying "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy upon me" 3,000 times a day to 6,000 to 12,000 to 24,000. I have not reached 3,000 daily, but that is because of my own sloth. This prayer is the seed of all graces!

Another gooder is The Practice of the Presence of God by Br. Lawrence, a Carmelite monk of the 17th century. If you do a Googly, you can find a free pdf to download and read it from the computer.

Plain Catholic.. You mentioned that book at the right time. We've all been discussing it on the Stop By for Coffee thread recently. Most of us have read it at one time or another but forgotten about the practice of it.  Roll Eyes

I found this book a long time ago on the shelf of an adoration chapel. Then I picked it up myself, and benefitted from it. Inside that book, there's another book mentioned, 'The Philokalia', the a compilation book of various writings, part Catholic, part not -- the Catholic portions of which are very instructive.  Cheesy

Remember to strive to make the exterior prayer as interior as possible!  Cheesy And make progress in virtue too without which the prayer will not be enough!  Cheesy

I can't imagine anyone progressing in virtue without the Sacraments and prayer anyway (even Spiritual Communion). Undecided

Yes, Spiritual Communion is a wonderful way to save one's spiritual life when the candle flickers and light it anew!

Virtue and prayer and the sacraments, they're all joined together. Smiley
