I read this yesterday right after I lost my temper at my youngest son who interrupted me to help him with a homework assignment....... at 15 yrs old.  After I composed myself (after reading this) and found out that it was a piece by Vondaget, a very metaphoric writer.  My son is a left brained soul: A+ in Chemistry and Math presently.  So I read the piece and had trouble understanding it myself!  So I told him do his essays and I will review them today to see if he is at least on target.  He calmed down.

Moral of the story?  Look what you miss when you lose your temper!  I could have shied him away (which I did till this morning!) and not only made him anxious but also undermined our relationship!  See how true the words of St Francis de Sales is in today's life?

Is there a place where patience is more needed than parenting?

In reading the Introduction to the Devout Life again (it seems to always take me twice to appreciate some books) what St. Francis says is making such practical sense to me!
