On another thread the merriness and playfulness of a number of Saints has been discussed and I'm wondering about any Scriptural quotes about this. Anyone know of any? Huh?

Hello!
I love this subject, I would love to learn more about this side of our beloved Saints.
I have two snipits that come under the heading of "dry humor", I hope they bring a
smile to your face. angel yellow

1)  St. Catherine of Sienna was nagging and badgering God to do something when and how she wanted and in exasperation
she said "Why Not!!"   God replied " I  AM,. . . you are she who is NOT!"

2)  St Teresa of Avila (always ready with a quick re joiner) was stuck in a downpour, in the mud with an overturned cart.Looking
up at the rain and down at her muddy habit -
She says to God "if this is how you treat your friends, it is no wonder you have so few!"

If nothing else they show the incredible intimacy of their relationship with our God!
Hope they made you smile! big grin

They sure did! Grin I figure that since it's so hard to keep a straight face (when it's called for) with human children, that God must be  rotfl sometimes when we do things.

Here're some saints' quotes..

'One hour's sleep is enough for a monk if he is a fighter.'

St. Arsenius  Shocked  Cheesy

It was said of Abba John the Dwarf, that one day he said to his elder brother, "I should like to be free of all care, like the angels, who do not work, but ceaselessly offer worship to God." So he took off his cloak and went away into the desert. After a week he came back to his brother. When he knocked on the door, he heard his brother say, before he opened it "Who are you?" He said, "I am John, your brother." But he replied, "John has become an angel, and henceforth he is no longer among men." Then the other begged him saying, "It is I." However, his brother did not let him in, but left him there in distress until morning. Then, opening the door, he said to him, 'You are a man and you must once again work in order to eat." Then John made a prostration before him, saying, "Forgive me."

- The Sayings of the Desert Fathers

I don't think I've ever looked through scriptures for humorous quotes so I had to look some up.

When [Peter] knocked at the outer gate, a maid named Rhoda came to answer. On recognizing Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the gate, she ran in and announced that Peter was standing at the gate. (Acts 12:13-14)

Ooops. The first Peter and the gates joke!

When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, because he was naked, and jumped into the sea. (John 21:7)

Cush became the father of Nimrod; he was the first on earth to become a mighty warrior. (Genesis 10:8 )

. . . Think your pastor is boring?

A young man named Eutychus, who was sitting in the window, began to sink off into a deep sleep while Paul talked still longer. Overcome by sleep, he fell to the ground three floors below and was picked up dead. (Acts 20:9)

Matt 4:2

And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.

(a little obvious?)

Canticles of Canticles 2:9

My beloved is like a gazelle, or a young stag. Behold, there he stands behind our wall, gazing in at the windows, looking through the lattice.

(isn't that illegal?)

Numbers 11:18

......Therefore the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. You shall not eat one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days, but a whole month, until it comes out at your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you, because you have rejected the Lord who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, "Why did we come forth out of Egypt?"

(boy, He's a no nonsense Father!)

Does God have a sense of humour?
I went to church for Adoration today. I said the Rosary but I wasn't focussed.  Kept worrying about my job, about the kind of dentist I may get, my life, future etc.  I apologized to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and told Him that I was behaving like Martha, rather than Mary.  Then I left and went to a store to buy a Christmas tree.  After I put the box with the tree in the van I glanced at the brand name and written in bold was ' MARTHA '  I laughed out aloud. Either a coincidence or God's sense of humour ? Cheesy
