Title: Axing the Smilies
Post by: Shin on September 29, 2010, 05:25:57 PM
We were discussing the smilies recently in the moderators' sanctum. .

And possibilities about adding to them, though the window that pops up is rather crowded and what to do about that, various solutions. . .

Martin suggested that we kill off some of the smilies that are rarely used.  :confuzed:

Like  :lilangel: , knock her off..

Axe..  :shy: and so forth..

Some of us were surprised at Martin's suggestion..  :speachless:  :faint:

I thought it was important enough to go to consult the entire family..  :fishie: :lilo: :angelblue:

I thought perhaps I would put it up for a vote..

But I am not sure what type of vote to take.. perhaps, say, for a week, every smilie that is underused or not used more than once, or is the least used gets the axe..

Or just have some posts here were people post their least favorite smilies to be knocked off, or alternatively their favorite smilies..

And then when we're done we have a going away ceremony for the chosen ones.

:ActofGod: :madgunfighter:  :soldier: :soldier: :soldier: :soldier: :soldier: :soldier:

And that way we could make room for more smilies.

What does everyone think of Martin's idea?   :sweatdrop:

Martin I'll let you speak for yourself here..

Excuse moi..  :boggles:

"These smily's are becoming a bit like the pigs in Animal Farm running the whole show."

St.? Martin

I like the idea of a going away party. :teaparty: You know the ones I would like - although when I started on this forum we didn't have any "more" and I did fine.

I think Martin's suggestion to get rid of that pop eye one is because there already is one on the yellow row above these post boxes.
And the fainting guy really doesn't capture sleep too well....... I'd love to see a sleep smiley.
Actually, I'm not too fond of that gun one or the head banging.  I used to use them a lot but I notice no one else really is and I'm certainly not going to..... maybe a smiley that is pulling ones hairs out in frustration.....  ;D

A going away party.......  :D

Baily this is very embarrassing for the more traditionally minded among us that we have to resort to a democratic vote on this.. I personally would treat them like infidels.. If they aren't being used then off with their heads.  ;D

We could maybe put them on trial.. Take one per day and all say Yay or Nay.  :D

We call to the stand  :brickwall: The evidence against him isn't beyond reasonable doubt... Ok, he might not be used much but he is doing what he says he does...I'd be inclined to give him another chance. I've used him at least 2 or 3 times and he still has possibilities. I give him a  for now.

What do the other members of the jury think?  :police:

Shin just do away with them.  What pleasure do you get by prolonging their wait to martyrdom?   ???

Title: Re: Axing the Smilies
Post by: Brigid on October 03, 2010, 04:18:20 PM
I think he is trying to be as fair as possible which is admirable, however since he is the administrator he knows which smilies haven't been used much. Not axing them is drawing it out and ensuring a more   painful martyrdom. :(

I know, Patricia - and I agree, it is dragging out their martyrdom.

Title: Re: Axing the Smilies

Actually, I was planning on replacing them with some country-craft style smilies, teddy bears and the like, crosshatch stitch patterns.. for the ladies..  :D

But I haven't actually gathered these materials yet it's just in the planning stages, I might not be able to find suffiicient -- so while I am in preparation for that they are on reprieve.. or suspended sentence or. .

Well, I suppose if there's any particular smilies that are particularly bad we could hurry it up and execute the sentence early.

 :-*

Goodbye?

Take :confuzed: for example..
Concerning this defendant,
If it weren't for his title appearing when one rests the cursor on him it would be impossible to guess what he's meant to be depicting... There's bound to be unemployed smiley's out there who would fit the job description much better.

I rest my case your Honor.   :irishwisdom:

We will need more jury members here to speak up on his behalf.
So far there's 2 votes against him and 1 in his favor.

I've had reports of mysteriously disappearing smilies.. smilies not showing up, not present.. and people suspecting they had been axed already, and forbidden to use..

A clarification from the judge. No smilies have been axed as of yet. These smilies that are suddenly disappearing.. . are absconding! They are seeking to avoid justice! They are on the lam!

I have nothing to do with it!

Ahem..

Since it appears the protesters are silent.. (bar one  ;D)

A new smilie has been submitted by AutumnRose in the gallery of the potential new entrant:

Here is the image from the gallery

(Sorry, but you are not allowed to access the gallery)

Smilie wub!

Ahem.

The vote is now to whether to include Smilie wub with the rest of the smilies.

Unless one has a more loveable smilie to submit than Smilie wub..

To the vote! Smilie wub for the smilie gallery, yea or nay?  :D

We don't know his credentials as yet but we could put him on probation for a few weeks and see if he's worth his salt. I would concede to this despite being a bit wary of him.

I mean, he is colorful and eye-catching but all that glitters ain't necessarily gold  :irishwisdom:

I, hereby do declare, by the powers vested in me as administrator, chief dishwasher, judge, and Mister Fixit,

That hereupon November the 2nd, in the Year of Our Lord 2010, in thanksgiving for the return of our dear friend and sister in Christ AutumnRose, a full pardon and remission be given to all smilies hitherto under consideration for the chop chop.

And a suitable heart smilie will be sought out with due diligence.

So be it. Amen.

How could you Shin?  How could you? :'(

Given this bad economy we may well have to introduce workfare legislation for the smilies before long Patricia, so a position may open again soon!  :speachless:

Martin,  she wasn't subtle about it. Wake up!  She is hand in hand with Brigid and Shin.  We need new enrollees. Maybe we could request Autumn Rose, PC, Charles to enlist in the cause. ( Make sure opponents don't read this secret message. )

Patricia. look at it this way. What an opportunity we have to show them who the true saints are here!

Let them have their smiley's and we'll receive the blessings for subjecting ourselves to this injustice for a higher cause.  ;D

I was reading all the past posts and reminiscing about all those good times we had, chasing/eliminating/ imprisoning  ;D  smilies. Good times, good times!
Shin, I was wondering if by any chance you were considering calling elections again? Martin and I would like our jobs back.  No harm intended. Just have my eyes on a few of them.  :sickie:
By the way, I have turned  a new leaf as you can detect  the respectful note in my request.

Please, please , please say you are having elections again!!!

Welllllllllll, if there are candidates we will hold elections again. First there have to be some candidates sponsored, for replacement and for removal from office.

So if we'ere to have elections consider this hmm, the preliminaries where people search out suitable candidates.
