A new addition to the Modesty and Purity Resources section of the website.

The new section is entitled: Modesty of the Eyes

This is an extract from the book, 'The True Spouse of Jesus Christ' by St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, on mortification of the eyes.

The next addition should continue this theme, with quotes from other saints on the subject matter of temperance, mortification, and modesty of sight.

A virtue very neglected in these times, and effectively impossible to practice in certain activities common to our times, that is, for example, television watching, which is another reason why it is so necessary to give up for the sake of the soul. A theme that will also be developed on the website in the future.

Thanks be to Our Lord from whom all blessings flow for the gifts He gives us through His saints.

'The True Spouse of Jesus Christ' by St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori can be found on Saints' Books, and I might add, is highly worth purchasing in paperback from a good Catholic bookstore for giving as a gift. It is a very special book that should be read.

A related resource link has been added to the main Modesty and Purity Resources section, containing a link to the Saints' Quotes - Selections - Fewness page, containing one hundred and one texts on the subject.

The Selections sub-page of Saints' Quotes is still being prepared.

Found this fitting quote on saintsquotes Smiley

'That our Redeemer was the first who taught, by his example, modesty of the eyes, may, as a learned author remarks, be inferred from the holy evangelists, who say that on some occasion he raised his eyes. And he, lifting up his eyes on his disciples. When Jesus therefore had lifted up his eyes. From these passages we may conclude that the Redeemer ordinarily kept his eyes cast down. Hence the Apostle, praising the modesty of the Saviour, says: I beseech you, by the mildness and modesty of Christ.'
