Inspirational Quotes from the Saints
now has a nice short series in the works sufficiently finished for a main page link.
A series on
'Attachment'
.
'If you purify your soul of attachment to and desire for things, you will understand them spiritually. If you deny your appetite for them, you will enjoy their truth, understanding what is certain in them.'
St. John of the Cross
The
Selections series
contain quite a few little compilations for thought and meditation.
If you haven't visited the
Selections
yet, please considering doing so and enjoying the beautiful quotations.

I selected this wonderful thread partly because it warrants this more current display, and because the poster deserves thanks and praise, and partly because my last post didn't sound as hopeful, joyful, and devout as I would like to be, especially at the top of our primary list of threads. I think many of these quotes can be effectively read as devotions and contemplations, and also the list can serve as a good source for topics of meditation. I pray many readers will be encouraged to join in this worship.

I hope to paste here the first few quotes from the selection on prayer, which is one of several dozen included in this thread:
Well, not yet, I'll be back. Help me please, Angel.

I am struggling to find a copy-paste procedure that will work here (from one forum to another), or perhaps a split screen, select, and drag. I'm hoping Benedict will know and comment, and also that he is well and still writing. Or of course anyone else.

Let's see, generally speaking you can highlight text with a left click of the mouse and moving the arrow over the text to copy, then right clicking and selecting 'copy'.
After that if you right click on the text area of a post you can 'paste' in the text.

Thank you, here goes another try.
'Prayer is nothing else than union with God. When the heart is pure and united with God it is consoled and filled with sweetness; it is dazzled by a marvelous light.'

The following quote is from the selection titled two (perhaps someone will explain the title). I think St Ignatius' view of the world is more beneficial and helpful than the extreme negative view of the mystics. The world is surely a trial for each of us, but efforts to avoid the trial by escaping from it cannot bring us much credit and diminishes our opportunity to love and assist our neighbors.
'All the things in this world are gifts of God, created for us, to be the means by which we can come to know him better, love him more surely, and serve him more faithfully. As a result, we ought to appreciate and use these gifts of God insofar as they help us toward our goal of loving service and union with God. But insofar as any created things hinder our progress toward our goal, we ought to let them go.'
St. Ignatius of Loyola
