{A} Common Maidenhair Spleenwort
{B} A small fern that grows in tufts from a short rhizome. It has long and narrow fronts, tapering at the ends. They grow in both hot and cold regions, and in rocky areas and on cliffs.
{C} The plant for the feast of St. Martina, Virgin and Martyr. Her relics were discovered in a vault in the ruins of her old church. She refused to participate in pagan sacrifice, and underwent tortures in the amphitheatre, but was left unharmed by them miraculously. She finally gained the crown of martyrdom by being beheaded.

The maidenhair spleenwort survives in the worst of conditions, bearing its crown of leaves, reminding us of the rewards of holding fast to the faith amidst trials and torments and so receive the reward of God.

than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

{B} Low growing, long stemmed and bright flowers that can be many colors and can grow in shady areas and along garden borders.
{C} The flower for the fesat of St. Catherine de Ricci, a Dominican Tertiary Sister who lived a humble and contemplative life, and bore the Stigmata. She miraculously met both St. Philip Neri and St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi. The many colors of the flowers of the polyanthus remind us of the many miracles and virtues found in the lives of the saints.
