Many of us when we pray make acts of love and adoration, contrition and petition, thanks and praise.  But do we make acts of praise and thanksgiving to our Lord as much as we ought to?  Our Lord is most excellent and so good and perfect--He is most deserving of our praise.   He suffered the worst pains for us and gives us every good thing; He created us and sustains us and bestows upon us at every moment new graces and blessings.  Is He not deserving of our praise and thanksgiving all day long?  Let us make a virtual intention to our Lord, that every time we say the Name of Jesus or blink or breathe or lift up our eyes to Heaven we offer our deepest praise and thanksgiving to Him.

'Learn, too, to be grateful.

May all the wealth of Christ's inspiration have its shrine among you; now you will have instruction and advice for one another, full of wisdom, now there will be psalms, and hymns, and spiritual music, as you sing with gratitude in your hearts to God. Whatever you are about, in word and action alike, invoke always the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, offering your thanks to God the Father through him.'

I like to sing the Lord's praises a whole lot.  The only time I get to sing hymns with others is at Holy Mass and sometimes when I am riding in a car with my friend or when alone.  I will try to give our Lord as much praise and thanks as I can, doing everything in and through His Name and saying Glorias and Deo gratiases to praise and thank Him.

Fr. Faber says that of the many saints St. Gertrude is one known for offering many acts of praise.  May we pray to her for this same spirit and imitate this wonderful saint of praise.

We should also make acts of thanks to Blessed Mary, for she our loving Mother, Advocate and Queen who has suffered so much pain for our salvation and on account of our sins; she is always interceding for us and is greatly deserving of our thanks.  We should praise her for her excellence, though she will give all credit to God.  Let us praise Almighty God for giving us such a loving and merciful Mother, Advocate and Queen.
