St Cyril of Alexandria, DOC, c376-444

The career of St Cyril reminds of how difficult and threatening life was for Christians even after the Church was declared in 380 the established religion for the Roman Empire by Emperors both in East and West. Constantine had declared Constantinople as the capitol city in 330, but Constantine and several of his successors were baptised by heretics (Arians). Damasus I, the Roman Pope from 366-384, had faced a violent antipope, and Cyril faced riotous opponents, then heretic Novatians, the Governor, and in 430 the heretic Nestorius, Patriarch of Constantinople. In 431 Cyril was himself deposed and arrested, but released by delegates of Pope Celestine I.
Cyril is considered the most theologian of the Alexandrian tradition and write extensively on the nature of Christ, Church dogma, Scripture commentaries, and an Apologia against the Apostate Emperor Juliaan.
Once again, I failed to notice that the feast was moved from 2/9 to 6/27. I'll move this in June, I hope. St Cyril, pray for us.

You've motivated me to a wonderful morning trying to find a concrete statement about the specific changes to the Church calendar from Vatican II, and what was published. I have Austin Flannery's two volumes on Vatican II documents but admit I have glanced at them many times, mostly only very briefly. I haven't yet found what I was expecting to find, a new Roman Calendar around 1968, which was reflected in later US Calendars. I'm still looking, hopefully someone else will help.

According to wikipedia, the Latin Rite Western Orthodox Church celebrated the feast on Febuary 9th from (1882–1969). According to the Catholic Encyclopedia written 1908 "St. Cyril has his feast in the Western Church on the 28th of January"
So I would figure in 1969 they moved the feast day to the same day as the day Saint Cyril of Alexandria died which is June 27th.

Cyril tried to oblige the pious Christian emperor Theodosius II to himself by dedicating his Paschal table to him.
