84. Q. What lessons do we learn from the sufferings and death of Christ?
A. From the sufferings and death of Christ we learn the great evil of sin, the hatred God bears to it, and the necessity of satisfying for it.

I remember reading a quote about how the great evil of our time (well actually it was Pius XII's) was the loss of the sense of sin.

Was that in an encyclical of his?

Hmm, I'm not sure of the direct source, the secondary sources all on the subject of modesty say he used the quote on more than one occasion, a widely used comment:

"The greatest sin of our modern generation is that it has lost all sense of sin."

A person commenting on this noted that people nowadays see habitual mortal sins as not culpable, because people do not feel they are committing anything wrong. But instead, in fact, this is a sign that the 'conscience is dead'. This struck me in particular and provokes me to think about it.

And even worse is when the sin is flaunted in public like in the recent "Gay Pride" march through our city where this lifestyle was beening openly promoted. What an awful warning the Lord has issued concernig this attitude.
How depraved people become when conscience is ignored to the point where it no longer speaks.

Woe to those who call  evil good, and good evil;
who put darkness for light, and light for darkness.
(Isaiah 5:20)  as something good.

What is Baltimore Catechism #2?

The Baltimore Catechism has 4 parts:
Part 0 is the First Communion Catechism for younger students in grades 1 and 2.
The first is for students preparing for first communion in grades 3,4 & 5.
The second is for students in middle school from grades 6,7 & 8.
The third is for students who have received confirmation such as high school students and young adults.
