It's a pretty flower -- The yellow reminds a person of a buttercup, just a little lighter and less orange!

It grows rather roundedly and can become uprooted by the wind and blow about like a tumbleweed!

It makes a person think of St. John the Baptist roaming through the desert.

In herbal medical references are described its medicinal values, it has antiseptic and antibacterial properties, among many other benefits. The herb is described as quite powerful so not much is used at once.

St. Flavian succeeded St. Proclus as bishop. When an archimandrite was accused of heresy, and refused to make an orthodox declaration on the two natures of Christ, St. Flavian excommunicated him. However, he suffered for condemning the heresy and the heresiarch, as the heresiarch connived to be convoked a false council in his own support, 'The Robber Council of Ephesus', where St. Flavian was beaten, put in chains, and sent into exile. He was beaten so badly he died a few days later, his exile having only just begun.

He died a martyr against the heretics, for the sake of the dogma of the two natures of Christ.

The Feast of St. Flavian, Archbishop and Martyr, is 2-17, today.
