Remember St. Francis de Sale's quote on frustration?
We must trust in the Providence of God!
With all my heart, every day my prayers go up for all those I love, all those I've known, hoping in his mercy. Still the devil is insidious and cruel, and as you well know , his greatest weapon is his ability to make people believe he doesn't exist, trying to get some of those we love to see the gravity of the situation can be challenging. But I do find my peace in my prayers and reading the words of the saints encourages me and gives me hope.

Remember that you will derive strength by reflecting that the saints yearn for you to join their ranks; desire to see you fight bravely, and that you behave like true knights in your encounters with the same adversities which they had to conquer, and that breathtaking joy is theirs and your eternal reward for having endured a few years of temporal pain. Every drop of earthly bitterness will be changed into an ocean of heavenly sweetness.

The more virtuous we are here the more Heaven is here with us!

We must never lose sight of the fact that we are either saints or outcasts, that we must love for heaven or hell. There is no middle path in this.

'When in the intensity of its love for God the intellect goes out of itself, then it has no sense of itself or of any created thing. For when it is illumined by the infinite light of God, it becomes insensible to everything made by Him, just as the eye becomes insensible to the stars when the sun rises.
All the virtues cooperate with the intellect to produce this intense longing for God, pure prayer above all. For by soaring towards God through this prayer the intellect rises above the realm of created beings.'

'Certainly, it is not the spiritual which comes first, but the natural, (1 Corinthians 15.46) so one must proceed by the usual order of things, from active work to the quiet of contemplation, and from moral virtues to spiritual and contemplative realities. Finally, my soul, why are you uselessly preoccupied with so many things, and always busy with them? Seek out and love the one supreme good, in which is all that is worth seeking, and that will be enough for you. Unhappy therefore is he who knows and possesses everything other than this, and does not know this.'

Respect the elders and love the young.....if you have a disagreement with someone, make peace with them before the sun goes down.
Finally, and importantly, never lose hope in God's mercy.

O God, you have taught me from my youth,
and I proclaim your wonders still.
Even till I am old and gray-headed,
do not forsake me, O God.
Let me tell of your mighty arm
to every coming generation;
your strength and your justice, O God,
reach to the highest heavens.
It is you who have worked such wonders.
O God, who is like you?
You have made me witness many troubles and evils,
but you will give me back my life.
You will raise me from the depths of the earth;
you will exalt me and console me again.
So I will give you thanks on the Lyre
for your faithfullness, O my God.
To you will I sing with the harp,
to you, the Holy One of Israel.
Psalm71:17-22
O Lord, open my lips.
And my mouth will proclaim your praise.

I love to see/hear the psalms! They seem so complete and 'worthy' of Him.

'Look at the reality: psalmody succeeds psalmody; reading, reading; study, study; prayer, prayer, like a wheel drawing us and joining us to God. How truly excellent is this way of life, how supremely excellent! How blessed this life and thrice-blessed!'

This is a wonderful thread. Thank you, everyone, for the quotes.
As a former pagan, this is one of my favorites:
I do not hold to the voice of birds, or any luck on the earthly world, or chance or a son or a woman. Christ the Son of God is my Druid; Christ the Son of Mary, the great Abbot; the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit. My estates are with the King of Kings; my order is at Cenacles and Moen.

This is the mark of Christianity.....however much a man toils, and however many righteousness-es he performs, to feel that he has done nothing, and in fasting to say, "This is not fasting", and in praying, "This is not prayer", and in perseverance at prayer, "I have shown no perseverance;
I am only beginning to practice and to take pains"; and even if he is righteous before God, he should say, "I am not righteous, not I ; I do not take pains, but only make a beginning every day."
